Brazilian Design in Miami: Warmth, Craft and Natural Materials

Why Brazilian design feels at home in Miami, and how warmth, craft and natural materials can shape a contemporary interior.

Warm Miami interior with natural materials

I was born in Brazil and have lived in Miami for more than a decade. Every day I see how naturally these two worlds meet. Both share the sun, the ocean, a love for gathering and a life lived between inside and outside. It is no surprise that Brazilian design feels so at home in South Florida.

A Modernist Heritage

In the middle of the twentieth century, Brazil produced one of the most original design movements in the world. Architects and designers such as Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi, Sergio Rodrigues and Joaquim Tenreiro took the ideas of modernism and made them warmer, more generous and more sensual. Curves inspired by the landscape, solid Brazilian woods, leather and cane replaced cold industrial materials.

That legacy still shapes contemporary Brazilian furniture. It is modern, but never cold.

Noble Materials, Honest Craft

Brazilian design celebrates the material itself. Solid woods with visible grain, natural leather that ages beautifully, woven cane and straw, linen and cotton. Many pieces are still finished by hand in family workshops, where techniques pass from one generation to the next. In a Miami interior, these textures bring a sense of authenticity that mass produced furniture cannot match.

Made for Tropical Living

Brazilian furniture was born in a warm, humid climate, and it shows. Deep sofas made for long conversations. Low lounge chairs that invite you to stay. Breathable fabrics and open structures that let air move. Pieces that work just as well on a covered terrace as in a living room. For Miami homes, this is design that simply makes sense.

Relaxed Elegance

There is a particular Brazilian way of living well: sophisticated but never stiff, beautiful but always comfortable. A living room should welcome friends with sandy feet as easily as it hosts a formal dinner. This balance is at the heart of how our studio designs, whether the client is Brazilian, American or from anywhere in the world.

Bringing Brazil Into a Miami Home

You do not need a fully Brazilian interior to feel its influence. A few ideas we often use:

  • A signature piece in solid wood or with a curved silhouette as the heart of the living room.
  • Natural fibers such as cane, rattan or straw in lighting, headboards or cabinet doors.
  • A warm, earthy palette of sand, terracotta, caramel and green.
  • Generous plants that blur the line between indoor and outdoor.
  • Seating that is deep, soft and made for staying.

A Personal Connection As US Brand Ambassador for Uultis, a Brazilian premium furniture brand, I have the joy of bringing this craft and comfort to American clients and showing how well it fits the way Miami lives. It is also a way of sharing a piece of where I come from.

Miami is a city built by many cultures, and its interiors are richer for it. You can read more in The Cultural Diversity That Shapes Interior Design in Miami.
